Not a day goes by that we don’t see these on a bride’s pin board on Pinterest or in the wedding world blogosphere ~ succulents are the “it” wedding bloom. When the editor over at French Style Wedding asked us to style a feature for them showing how we love to use succulents, the “QUI !!!” could be heard in a robust but lady-like squeal, in the whole atmosphere I’m sure!
The rich textural play that these little delicacies provide, is unmatched. Of course, I love them best when pared with lush voluptuous blooms such as peonies, English Garden Roses and grand dahlias. With this shoot, as with all of our wedding design work, I sought to provide balance between funky chic, while keeping things soft and romantic. Sweet peas provided just the right amount of whimsey and movement of their delicate tendrils. Embrace the robustness of succulents by varying sizes and using them in different ways, like the fun napkin treatment we created with the blackberry accents or flat on the table, grouped with other textural elements or candles.
My favorite elements: As soon as Judi at Embellish Vintage Rentals showed me her vintage violet collection, I was so smitten ~ it belonged to her mother and I’m so very grateful that she trusted us with it for a day ~ I absolutely love these pieces. The linens are natural fiber full grain linen in natural and plum, pared with a vintage lace table cloth, again from Judi’s collection at Embellish. It’s no secret, I think fruit and flowers are exquisite together ~ here we used black berries as an accent. I also love how the groom’s boutonniere was wrapped in natural Spanish moss instead of ribbon. Get creative ~ find your own balance between feminine and structural, it will provide detail interest to your bouquets and tabletops!
Great thanks to the amazing vendors who so graciously contributed to this style shoot.
